Children's Dental Services for Orinda Families
True pediatric dentistry means doctors who have completed years of specialty training beyond dental school, focused entirely on children’s developing mouths, behavioral needs, and unique anxieties. That’s what we offer at our Montclair Village office, just 10 minutes from Orinda through the Caldecott.
Fearful & Resistant Children
Has your child declared, “I’m never going back to the dentist”? We hear it weekly. Our behavior-focused approach turns dental dread into cooperation, without force, restraint, or bribery.

Autism & Sensory Needs
Weighted blankets, dimmed lights, noise-canceling headphones, and all the time in the world. We adapt our environment and approach to your child, not the other way around.

Baby & Toddler Dentistry
First visits by age one, teething guidance, and habit counseling (thumb-sucking, pacifiers, bottles). Building comfort with dental care before it becomes a battle.
Learn More
Cleanings, fluoride, sealants, and cavity risk assessments. Keeping healthy mouths healthy is far easier than fixing problems later.
Learn More
Nitrous oxide for mild anxiety. In-office IV sedation with a dedicated anesthesiologist for children who need deeper relaxation or extensive treatment.
Learn More
Knocked-out tooth? Facial swelling? Severe pain? Call immediately, we reserve slots daily for urgent cases. Orinda families reach us in under 15 minutes.

Fillings & Crowns
When cavities happen (and they do, even in careful families), we offer tooth-colored composites, zirconia crowns, and gentle nerve treatments.

Lost a baby tooth early? Custom appliances preserve the space so permanent teeth can arrive where they belong.

What Makes Us Different from Walnut Creek Options
We're Pediatric Dental Specialists, Not Generalists
“Pediatric dentist” isn’t just a marketing term. Dr. Rebecca Hsieh and Dr. Lina Paek completed 2-3 years of residency training after dental school, with a focus exclusively on children. Both practiced at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, handling complex cases that most dentists never see.
This matters because children aren’t small adults. Their teeth, anxieties, and behavioral needs require specialized training. A family dentist who “also sees kids” isn’t the same thing.
Your Child Won't See a Rotating Cast of Providers
Pick Dr. Rebecca or Dr. Lina. That’s who your child sees, this visit, next visit, every visit. No “whoever’s available today.” No re-explaining your child’s sensitivities to someone new.
For anxious kids, especially, this consistency is everything.
We Actually Specialize in Difficult Cases
Some practices prefer easy patients. We built ours around the challenging ones: the child who gags easily, the teen who hasn’t seen a dentist in years, the kindergartner who bit the last dentist.
Our work at UCSF included medically complex and behaviorally challenging children. We chose this specialty because these kids deserve expert care, too.
Eco-Conscious Practice, Eco-Conscious Families
Boutique Practice, Not Corporate Dentistry
We’re women-owned, small by design, and intentionally not expanding to multiple locations. Your family isn’t a number. We know your kids’ names, their siblings, their fears, and their favorite prize from the treasure chest.
“We tried two different pediatric dentists in Walnut Creek before finding Montclair Pediatric. The difference is night and day. It’s a small practice where they actually know my kids, not a dental factory pushing unnecessary treatments.” – Christine H., Orinda Country Club.
When Your Child Says "I Won't Go"
Let’s be honest: some kids are genuinely terrified of dental care. Maybe a past experience went badly. Maybe they’re sensory-sensitive. Maybe they’re just stubborn.
We get it. These are our favorite patients to win over.
Our approach is different:
No restraining, ever. If a child needs to be held down, we stop. Period. We’ll try again another day, or discuss sedation options. Forcing dental care creates lifelong dental phobias.
“Practice visits” are real appointments. Sometimes the goal is just sitting in the chair. Or letting us count teeth for five seconds. Small wins build trust. There’s no shame in needing multiple visits to work up to a cleaning.
We speak kid. The “Mr. Thirsty” (suction). The “tooth counter” (explorer). The “sleepy air” (nitrous). Language that doesn’t frighten.
Parents stay. You’re welcome in the treatment room, holding hands, providing comfort. You know your child better than we do.
We’ve seen it all. Crying, screaming, running away, hiding under chairs, biting. None of it shocks us. None of it makes your child “bad.” It makes them normal.
“My daughter had a full panic attack at her previous dentist, and they basically told us not to come back. Dr. Lina welcomed us with zero judgment. It took four visits before my daughter would open her mouth, and they celebrated every tiny step. Now she’s proud of herself at dental visits. That’s worth everything.” – Rachel T., Sleepy Hollow.

Your Child's First Appointment: What Actually Happens
We hear the anxiety in parents’ voices when they call. “What if she screams?” “What if he won’t cooperate?” “What if it’s a disaster?”
Here’s the truth: we’re prepared for all of it. And the first visit is designed to succeed.
Before you arrive: We’ll ask about your child’s temperament, past dental experiences, and any sensory sensitivities. This helps us prepare.
When you arrive: No rushing. Your child can explore our waiting area, play with toys, and watch other kids leave happy. Whenever they’re ready.
The “happy visit” option: For anxious or very young children, sometimes the entire first appointment is just meeting us, sitting in the chair, and maybe, maybe, letting us count teeth. That’s a complete success. We call it a “happy visit.”
If they’re ready for more, Dr. Rebecca or Dr. Lina will examine the teeth and gums, looking for cavities, developmental issues, and bite alignment. Everything explained in kid-friendly terms.
Cleaning (when appropriate): Most children are comfortable enough for a gentle cleaning. If not today, we’ll get there. No pressure.
Parent conversation: While your child picks a prize, we’ll discuss what we found, answer questions, and make a plan.

About Dr. Rebecca & Dr. Lina
We met while working at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, treating some of the most complex pediatric dental cases in Northern California. Hospital dentistry teaches you things private practice never could: medically fragile children, severe behavioral challenges, cases other providers couldn’t handle.
So we built something different.
Montclair Pediatric Dentistry is small by design. We know our patients. We don’t rush. We don’t push unnecessary treatments. We take the difficult cases that other practices avoid.
The details that matter to us:
We’re eco-friendly: not because it’s trendy, but because we’re raising kids in this community too.
We volunteer: dental screenings at Oakland schools, Montclair Cares Club, and community health fairs.
We’re board-certified: the highest credential in pediatric dentistry, requiring ongoing education and examination.
Special Needs? We Designed Our Practice for You.
Finding dental care for a child with autism, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, Down syndrome, or other special needs shouldn’t be this hard. But it is, we hear it from families constantly.
“They said they ‘accommodate’ special needs but clearly didn’t know what that meant.”
“The office was so loud and bright, my son was overwhelmed before we started.”
“They rushed us and got frustrated when my daughter needed more time.”
We’re different because we built our practice around these children:
Environment modifications: Lights dim. Music off or quiet. Noise-canceling headphones are available. Weighted blankets. Sunglasses for overhead light sensitivity.
Scheduling flexibility: First appointment of the day (quiet office). Longer appointment slots. Shorter visits spread across multiple appointments if needed.
Familiarization visits: Want to visit just to see the space, meet us, and sit in the chair without treatment? Absolutely. Sometimes that’s the most important appointment.
Communication your way: Visual schedules, social stories, picture cards, whatever helps your child understand what’s coming.
Sensory-friendly tools: Vibration-free polishers, flavored or unflavored options, slower movements, and constant narration of what’s happening.
“We’ve been turned away by three dental offices because of my son’s autism. Not ‘we can’t help you’, literally asked to leave mid-appointment. Dr. Rebecca has seen him for two years now. She knows his triggers, his communication style, and his comfort items. He actually says ‘teeth doctor’ with a smile now.” – Marcus D., Glorietta.
